“A journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step.” (Tao Te Ching)
In House of Movement, our aim is to care for your health and well-being. We do that by teaching the ancient practices of tai chi and qigong. Tai chi and qi gong exercises are easy-to-follow, gentle and appropriate for anyone of any age and physical condition. Based on the belief that many illnesses could have been prevented with good stress management tools, we also run stress management workshops in Devon.
The students in our tai chi and qigong classes in Devon are usually between the ages of 40-80, but anyone can benefit from tai chi and qigong. Extensive research has found tai chi and qigong beneficial for many conditions and for slowing down the aging process. Western doctors are increasingly recommending tai chi. Chinese medicine doctors and acupuncturists have recommended qigong for centuries. The regular practice of tai chi and qigong may have some of these benefits:
- Improved blood circulation;
- Healthier joints and muscles;
- Calm body-mind, including regulating your nervous system (useful for PTSD, chronic stress or similar conditions);
- Improved respiratory and digestive systems;
- More stamina and energy;
- Feeling grounded, connected.
As well as getting all the benefits of tai chi, our students have a great time in class, meeting like-minded people and usually having a laugh.
Tai chi and qigong are our favourite tools to manage our stress, but our knowledge is not limited to them. Alda is a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist who has an in-depth knowledge of how the nervous system works. She is also an experienced trainer, who will explain in simple language how you can get on top of your stress, showing you and practising with you simple tools that you will be able to do at home.
Testimonials“I enjoy Alda’s classes because they stretch my body and calm my mind. She is unfailingly patient and has a gentle sense of humour which is very encouraging for a beginner like me.” (Lynne, Dawlish, 2015)
